Turner passed though Cluses on his way down the Arve valley towards Mont Blanc. It was his next stop after Bonneville, a distance of about eight miles. He made four sketches in this sketchbook, see also folios 50–2 (D04445–D04447), before continuing to St Martin. Here Turner is looking back across the broad base of the Arve valley towards Le Môle rising north-east of Bonneville.
