For Lake Lucerne see folio 7 of this sketchbook (D04655). This is Turner’s first view of the Rigi, the mountain whose changes of colour and lighting were to be favourite subjects when he returned to Lucerne in the 1840s. Its indistinct outline suggests he saw it towards the middle of the day, when the atmosphere typically becomes hazy.
