See Introduction to the sketchbook for Turner’s trip into North Wales from Tabley in 1808 and folio 29 verso (D06893; Turner Bequest CIV 28a) for a drawing related to the picture Trout Fishing in the Dee, Corwen Bridge and Cottage (Taft Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio)1 perhaps begun back at Tabley.
In this and another sketch on folios 46 verso–47 (D06916–D06917; Turner Bequest CIV 45a– 46) the viewpoint is from closer to the bridge and cattle are more prominent in the foreground than in 29 verso or in the picture.
