Continued from folio 39 verso (D25838) this view of Carlisle from the west shows from left to right: Carlisle Cathedral, the steeple of St Cuthbert’s Church, the two oval towers of the Citadel, and a church spire at the right that was knocked down in 1847 to make way for Carlisle railway station. There are two sketches of the spire on folio 41 (D25841) and the towers of the Citadel are shown again on folios 42 and 43 verso (D25843, D25846).
