Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Listed by Finberg as one of a batch of ‘loose leaves appear[ing] to belong to this book’ this was rebound as folio 59. Across the lower portion of the leaf there is a wide view probably of the Thames at Richmond, as proposed by Finberg, with a detail above it seemingly related to the motif of drying clothes mentioned in Turner’s inscription. On the top half of the leaf, made with the sketchbook inverted, is a much slighter outline, perhaps of London Bridge. These subjects are clearly drawn on different occasions.
