Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. See Introduction to the sketchbook for plans in the mid 1820s for a series of London subjects, including London Bridge, the Custom House and the Tower. Turner may have intended to include these additional subjects, Somerset House, the home of the Royal Academy, and John Rennie’s Waterloo Bridge (1811–16; renamed from Strand Bridge and formally opened in 1817). There are a number of views of the bridge on the following pages, the most detailed being on folio 88 (D07106; Turner Bequest CV 78).
