In a handwritten checklist David Wallace-Hadrill identified this sketch as Loch Skavaig on the Isle of Skye with the peak of Bla Bheinn at the right-hand side. At the centre of the sketch is Sgurr na Stri, the mountain at the head of the loch. The view must be from Elgol or from a boat on the loch. Turner took a boat from Elgol to the head of the loch where he entered Loch Coruisk. There are further sketches of these mountains on folio 73 (D26580); see that catalogue entry for further references.
