The two sketches on this page are of Loch Katrine.1 The larger sketch, made with the book held so that the gutter is at the bottom, is of the east end of Loch Katrine from the north shore, looking towards Ben Venue. Turner made a number of sketches of the same view in the Stirling and the West sketchbook, the closest of which to the present sketch is Tate D26507 (Turner Bequest CCLXX 36a). With the sketchbook inverted is another view of Loch Katrine, inscribed ‘Kat’, this time from the south looking across the loch to Ben A’an and the east end of the loch. There is a similar view in the Stirling and the West sketchbook (Tate D26521; Turner Bequest CCLXX 43a).
