These sketches, continuing at the left on the inside front cover of the sketchbook (D41019), have been identified as having been made by Turner as his boat left Oban Pier.1 The top three depict the Gallanach Cliffs to the south of the town, and the fourth sketch down is a view south down the Sound of Kerrera, with the Gallanach Cliffs on the left and the island of Kerrera on the right. The sketch at the bottom of the page may depict the Gallanach Cliffs with Carding Mill. Turner made a sketch of the mill from the Gallanach Road in the Staffa sketchbook (Tate D26896; Turner Bequest CCLXXIII 79).
