The three sketches on this page were made from the mouth of the River Oich at Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness. Across the centre of the page is a sketch of a bridge. This is the Old River Oich Bridge which crosses the river near Loch Ness. The view is from the north-east and looks south-west along the River Oich to Fort Augustus. The fort itself is behind the bridge to the left and in the distance are the Loch Lochy Hills. Daily life is suggested by the two figures that lean idly on the parapet of the bridge at the right.
The fort is shown again in the sketch at the top of the page with canal locks in the foreground and the masts of boats and the Loch Lochy Hills in the distance. This sketch may have been made from the bridge.
At the bottom of the page, drawn with the sketchbook inverted, is a sketch of the view in the opposite direction: north up Loch Ness. See folio 18 verso (D26997) for references to further sketches of Loch Ness.
