Drawn from the top of the Falls of Foyers on the eastern shore of Loch Ness, this sketch depicts the view north along the River Foyers to Loch Ness. The sketch may be inscribed at the upper centre left ‘Lia B’, probably referring to the bridge over the Upper Fall at Glen Lia, from where this sketch is likely to have been made, along with sketches on folios 41 verso and 42 verso–43 (D27036, D27038–D27039).
Turner made sketches from above and below the two waterfalls during a scheduled stop at Foyers on his steamboat journey up Loch Ness towards Inverness. For references to his other sketches see folio 40 verso (D27034).
