This sketch, described by Finberg as ‘a courtyard’,1 depicts an arcade projecting from a building. Further buildings can be seen through the left-most arch and Turner has included a seated figure at the far left of the sketch. The buildings have not been identified, though it is likely that the sketch was made in Edinburgh where Turner made sketches of other buildings in this sketchbook.
