This view seems to be of Charmouth from the Bridport road, looking south-west past Stonebarrow Hill on the left in the direction of the coast and Lyme Regis. A more detailed, though still relatively slight drawing in the Corfe to Dartmouth sketchbook (Tate D08839; Turner Bequest CXXIV 28), inscribed ‘Charmouth | and Lyme’, appears to show much the same view.
The drawing on folio 49 recto (D08455) appears to show Charmouth beach. For Bridport see folios 7 verso and 47 verso (D08375, D08452); there are a also number of views of Lyme Regis, beginning on folio 36 recto (D08429).
