From south-west of Christchurch, Turner looks east, with Christchurch Priory on the left and what appears to be Hengistbury Head on the right, enclosing Christchurch Harbour, beyond which the Isle of Wight may be indicated in the distance. The viewpoint is difficult to establish owing to later developments on the fringes of the Bournemouth conurbation, but the various features can be seen from the open land east of Southbourne. For other sketches made around Christchurch see under folio 22 recto (D08403).
Turner presumably travelled westwards from here towards Poole, although drawings of the latter appear a little earlier in this book, on folios 14 recto and 16 recto (D08387, D08391).
