As Cecilia Powell first identified, this sketch depicts a view of Capua with the Porta Napoli (Naples Gate), on the southern perimeter of the town.1 Visible beyond the gate is the dome and campanile of the Chiesa dell’Annunziata. The prospect today is still recognisable although the architecture of the gate was somewhat altered during the eighteen-thirties. Further studies of Capua can be found on folios 33–35 (D15619–D15623; Turner Bequest CLXXXIV 32–34).
