This page contains three sketches of Lake Avernus, a volcanic crater near Pozzuoli, including part of the composition from the opposite sheet of the double-page spread. See this entry, folio 71 verso (D15696; Turner Bequest CLXXXIV 69a) for a discussion of the lake and Turner’s depiction of it.
There is another landscape sketch in the top right-hand corner which is currently unidentified although it probably depicts somewhere in the Campi Flegrei (Phlegraean or Burning Fields), the volcanic peninsula to the west of Naples.
