This page contains a series of five views relating to Castellammare di Stabia (previously known as Castellamare or Castel a Mare), a city on the Tyrrhenian coast between Naples and Sorrento. Visible in the top and bottom scenes is the Basilica of Pozzano (also known as the Santuario della Madonna di Pozzano), situated on the hill to the west of Castellammare, see folio 39 (D15811). The second sketch from the top meanwhile depicts the vista looking east towards the harbour and naval arsenal, with the ninth-century castle on the slopes to the right. The remaining studies in the middle of the sheet depict an unidentified building on the coast near Pozzano. For a fuller description and further sketches of Castellammare see folio 59 (D15845).
