Turner’s viewpoint for this sketch is the river end of the Uffizi Gallery, on Lungarno Anna Maria Luisa de’Medici. The vista looks down-river (west) with the Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno on the left, and the arcade of the Uffizi on the right. In the central foreground is a small terrace with a balustrade.1 Like many of Turner’s sketches of Florence, the drawing is very slight and swiftly executed.
