Although Finberg implies otherwise, and is followed by Upstone, the sketch has no direct connection with Turner’s picture The Shipwreck (Tate N00476),1 for which see Introduction to the sketchbook. There is a slight offset of blue wash from folio 17 verso (D05391; Turner Bequest LXXXVII 16).
