This page contains part of a landscape composition which has spilled over from the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 1 verso (D14145). The subject is currently unidentified although it may represent a distant view of Susa, the first town in Italy after crossing through the Alps at Mont Cenis. Also on the sheet are two further studies depicting the profile of mountains. Turner’s annotations ‘R’ and Gothard’, refer to Monte Rosa and the Gotthard Pass in the Swiss Alps.
