This is the right half of a double-page spread continued from folio 26 verso (D11411) opposite, recording the south range of Richmond Castle from the Catterick road. In this Turner is returning to almost exactly the same viewpoint (slightly further to the east) of a sketch made a few weeks earlier in the Yorkshire 5 sketchbook (Tate D11542–D11593; Turner Bequest CXLVIII 12a–41).
