This is the left half of a double-page spread continued to the right on folio 56 (D10971), opposite, recording the view of the south-east aspect of Middleham Castle, from a lower and nearer viewpoint to the double-spread on folios 53 verso–54 (D10966–D10967). The castle is indicated here only skeletally here since it is studied in detail from this angle on folios 54 verso–55 (D10968–D10969).
