This is a very hasty note of the view of Fort Bard, Val d’Aosta, from the north, possibly on the main road from Verres, with the church spire framed in the cusp of the valley to the left of the fort. Although amounting to no more than a few scrappy lines, this seems to be almost exactly the view in Turner’s watercolour of Fort Bard (Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight).1
