Exhibited as number 19 in the First Loan Collection1 this drawing probably depicts Rumilly, near Annecy. Three of Turner’s labels for Grenoble drawings are inscribed ‘Romilly’ [sic]; see also from this sketchbook D04532, D04589; Turner Bequest LXXIV 39, 96).
The paper is discoloured from exposure.
