This drawing is on the verso of D04580; Turner Bequest LXXIV 87, another on-the-spot view of Martigny, from within the town. The present subject is repeated in two more finished versions, with more detail and tonal additions in chalk and gouache, from the same sketchbook (D04494; Turner Bequest LXXIV 2 and D40200).
