Perhaps a scene near Grenoble, beside a river, this subject has not yet been identified among those numbered by Finberg. The activity in the foreground, including a boat being drawn up onto the shore and three figures resting, are notable elements in this drawing. As in others from the Grenoble series, the trio might represent Turner, his travelling companion Newbey Lowson, and their guide.
