As Finberg recorded, the identification of this subject as the ‘Valley of Lauter Brunnen’ was due to John Ruskin. One of two drawings from this sketchbook made at Lauterbrunnen, it shows the floor of the Lutschine valley looking towards the Breithorn range of mountains. The other drawing, of the village and its famous landmark, the Staubbachfall, is D04624; Turner Bequest LXXV 32.
