Turner seems to have inscribed this drawing as ‘Appledore’, but it is so faint that the viewpoint is unclear; the tower in the right foreground awaits identification. The village overlooks the confluence of the Taw and Torridge Estuaries as they enter Barnstaple or Bideford Bay. For other views around nearby Bideford, a little to the south up the Torridge, see under folio 79 recto (D09564).
