Turner shows Dartmouth from the Kingswear side of the River Dart, looking north-west past the tower of St Saviour’s Church by the harbour, up the hill to St Clement’s Church on the horizon. There is a similar view, this time from the water’s edge, on folio 60 recto (D09744), the last of a sequence of views around Dartmouth and the Dart Estuary beginning on folio 50 recto (D09730); for sketches made in 1811, see under the first of these.
There are small variations on the present view on folio 57 verso (D09741).
