The exact viewpoint has yet to be established in terms of the house on the left, which may not survive, but in the distance Launceston Castle and the adjacent tower of St Mary Magdalene’s Church are seen to the west up the valley of the River Kensey. There are a few figures in the centre, below the embankment or terrace. For other views of Launceston Castle and the surrounding town, see under folio 70 recto (D09873; Turner Bequest CXXXIV 72).
The Kensey flows into the River Tamar near Polson Bridge, the subject on folios 77 recto and 78 recto (D09825, D09826; Turner Bequest CXXXIV 33, 34).
