The outer half of the sheet is missing, and may have been so when Turner acquired the sketchbook or at least by the time he came to use the adjacent folio 15 verso (D09912), as a single slight drawing of a tree runs across the two overlapping pages. The loss amounts to 45 mm at the sides, extending irregularly to 57 mm towards the centre. Continued over the gutter here is the topmost foliage of what may be the same tree shown again on folio 17 recto opposite (D09915), under which its possible significance is discussed.
