With the page turned horizontally, Mount Edgcumbe is seen to the west across Plymouth Sound from the western end of Plymouth Hoe, with the headland south of Stonehouse towards Western King Point in the middle distance to the right. At the bottom left are the same rocks and figures seen in the drawing on folio 5 recto (D09222), which continues the prospect to the south-west.
Although details differ, the profile of Mount Edgcumbe is close to that in shown an the untraced watercolour of about 1818,1 engraved in 1826 as Mount Edgecomb, Devonshire for Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England (Tate impressions: T05401, T04423, T05999; see the concordance of the series in the Introduction to the 1813 tour).
The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
