With the page turned horizontally, the tower at Mount Batten is at the centre, with Plymouth beyond to the north-west. To the right of the tower are the Citadel, the tower of St Andrew’s Church and the spire of the Charles Church. To the left Drake’s Island is seen in Plymouth Sound, with Mount Edgcumbe beyond. The viewpoint appears to be the Staddiscombe area, south of Plympton. The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
