With the page turned horizontally, this view in woods among hills is currently unidentified, but may be near the River Yealm, south-east of Plymouth. A nearby sketch (folio 47 recto; D09268) is annotated with the name of the river, while folio 53 recto (D09275) and subsequent pages show the Wembury area, near the mouth of the river. The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
There appears to be a figure at a doorway at the bottom right. There is a continuation of the treetops to the right ‘above’ on folio 48 verso opposite (D09270).
