D18784
Turner Bequest CCXIII 52a
Pencil on white wove paper, 113 x 187 mm

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this drawing is one of two facing each other (see also folio 53 recto opposite; D18785) but otherwise isolated within a long run of blank pages. There are no topographical clues here in what appears to be a busy shore scene, with a detail of a covered barge above. D18785 may show the river frontage of Greenwich Hospital, so the present view may also be beside the River Thames in the vicinity.
