This rough and swiftly rendered sketch captures a crowd of people in what appears to be an urban setting, perhaps a main square. Though slight, the sketch resembles a scene taken in 1839 by Turner as he awaited his diligence en route to Liège (Tate D28044; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 2).
