This is a record of aspects of an ‘extraordinary sky’ which Turner observed as he approached Ostend on 7 September 1824 (see also Tate D19898–D19899, D19901; Turner Bequest CCXVI 173a–174, 175). There are a few dashed-off notes on the tone and colours of light, such as: ‘Cold Cloud’; ‘Pink’ and ‘Yel[low] Light’.
