This detailed study of a parade of buildings, including an elaborate Baroque mansion, was taken at the Quai Henry IV at Dieppe. The buildings are the seventeenth-century Collège des Oratoriens and the Hôtel de la Vicomté. Both appear in Turner’s oil painting Harbour of Dieppe (Changement de Domicile), exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1825 (Frick Collection, New York).1 For other views of Dieppe in this sketchbook see Tate D19959, D19966, D19968–D19983, D19985–D20014, D20031–D20033; Turner Bequest CCXVI 205, 209a, 211–220a, 221a–236, 244a–245a.
