This is a view of the quayside at Liège, Belgium, on the banks of the river Meuse. Turner visited the city at the beginning and towards the end of his tour on 13 August and 4 September. In the foreground a figure stands at the edge of the quay wall looking towards the moored boats loaded with cargo and beyond to the Pont des Arches. The spire of the Cathedral of Saint-Paul is visible in the middle distance at centre.
