With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with a drawing of geometric paths and rows of trees typical of a formal garden. The recurrence of sketches on adjacent pages depicting the gardens of Château de Saint-Cloud, some seven miles west of central Paris, suggest that this drawing was taken at the same location.
