This study of a church has been rendered with the sketchbook turned upside down. Previously unidentified, this cataloguer proposes that the church may be Saint Edmund’s at Southwold, Suffolk. Constructed over a period of sixty years from the 1430s, Saint Edmund’s Church is celebrated for its East Anglian flushwork, especially that of the tower.1 Details of the window tracery have been recorded in jottings above, below and to the left of the drawing of the church.
There is a separate view of the coast executed with the sketchbook turned vertically. The inscription above the view may read ‘Blue Light’.
