Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this vigorous sketch appears to show at least one sailing boat at sea. There is a slight continuation on folio 41 verso opposite (D35560), where ‘Cold Light’ may be noted above cliffs, probably on the Channel coast. See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it.
