Turner filled much of this page with studies of hilly terrain with buildings and a wide river valley. The landscape and settlements around the mouth of Seine was the subject of rather extensive study in this volume so Tate curator Ian Warrell has suggested that these sketches were made there.1 See the sketchbook introduction for a list of the places in this area recorded in these pages.
