From Unter den Linden Boulevard in Berlin, here Turner depicts the University at left and the Opera House at right. At centre in the distance is Schlossplatz (renamed Marx-Engels-Platz), which formerly gave onto the City Palace or Schloss (now demolished). The artist has inscribed ‘Platz and Opera House’, and the numbers ‘8’ and ‘5’ against the bays of the Opera House.
