The principal sketch is a prospect of Stettin (now Szczecin in Poland). Drawing from a vantage point in the Logengarten, Turner’s view encompasses the Ducal Castle and St James’s Church at right, the city and River Oder at centre. With the sketchbook upright, Turner has also rendered a small squared off view of St James’s Church.
For other sketches of Stettin see Tate D31083–D31093, D31095–D31106; Turner Bequest CCCVII 32a–37a, 38a–44.
