The inscriptions ‘Harfen’ (i.e. ‘havn’, the word for ‘harbour’ in Danish), ‘Fish’ and ‘Speise Tafel’ (‘menu’ in German) are rendered around the sketches.
The signatures and inscriptions Henry Scott Trimmer, Charles Turner, Charles Locke Eastlake and John Prescott Knight (executors of Turner’s will) are also inscribed.
