This view of Hamburg was taken from a vantage point on the Jungfernsteig and looks towards the Hotel Belvedere situated at the southern corner of the Binnenalster Lake. The spire of the Jacobikirche rises behind the Belvedere and is continued onto the folio opposite (Tate D30865; Turner Bequest CCCV 23). To the left is the spire of St Peter’s Church.
