Produced by Young Tate in collaboration with Cut to the Chase Productions, with creative input from Punchdrunk Enrichment.  Director: Jen Heyes.  Project Manager: Karen Green.

Young Tate is to present a ‘one night only’ immersive theatre event at Tate Liverpool, in collaboration with Liverpool based theatre company Cut to the Chase Productions and with creative input from pioneering immersive theatre company Punchdrunk, through their Enrichment programme.

A response to Tate Liverpool’s Alice in Wonderland exhibition, Curiouser and Curiouser is a darkly playful and absurd experience staged throughout the Tate Liverpool building.  Visitors are invited to journey beyond the exhibition and ‘through the looking glass’, with the gallery and public spaces transformed into Wonderland.  Installation, performance, sound and an original film will draw onlookers in.

The event is full of surprises that the Young Tate team are keen to keep under wraps until the day.  But visitors can expect to be taken out of their comfort zone; they will find characters from the classic stories, but with personalities and characteristics that they might not be so familiar with.  A sleeping Alice, Queen of Hearts and three Mad Hatters, all with different personalities, will feature.    Young Tate member Kiri Binnersley, who is acting a Production Manager for the event, said ‘This is our own take on Alice; it’s not cliché Alice, it’s Alice with a modern twist.  There will be plenty of surprises in store for visitors.  It has been fantastic working with Cut to the Chase and Punchdrunk Enrichment, who have generously shared their experience with the Young Tate team.’

Jen Heyes from Cut to the Chase Productions has worked weekly with Young Tate on this performance and installation work. Pete Higgin, from Punchdrunk Enrichment, has also provided regular input, bringing insights of Punchdrunk’s immersive approach.  Over twelve weekly sessions, they’ve shaped and nurtured the group’s responses to the Alice exhibition.

Visitors are advised to book in advance.  The ticket price includes entry to the exhibition and the event.  The event also coincides with a ‘Mad Hatter weekend’ of activity at venues across the Albert Dock.  For more information, visit www.albertdock.com.
