Collaborative Conversations: Socially Engaged Art Practices in Liverpool

24 January 2018 at 13.00–16.00
25 January 2018 at 10.00–18.00
Participants during a workshop at Tate Liverpool

Participate in the discussion about collaborative socially engaged art

This symposium offers an opportunity for Liverpool based artists, communities and institutions to present, debate and share expertise in the field of collaborative socially engaged practice.

Key questions could include: What are the specific local contexts in Liverpool that create the conditions for these projects? How have local communities responded to collaborative projects in recent years? What are the specific methods of artistic engagement in this region? How do we critically reflect and learn from these practices moving forward?

Day 1: Australian sound artist Vic McEwan will present his work at the Cad Factory in Sandigo, NSW, Australia and as artist in residence on his commission The Harmonic Oscillator, with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Day 2: A number of invited artists and organisations from Liverpool will share their critical reflections of the collaborative social contexts they work in.

Jake Ryan will be filming the event to disseminate amongst the CAPP network and as part of the CAPP On Air webinar series. Please let us know on the day if you don’t want to be included in any filming.

This event is for artists, local groups, art workers and those interested in discussing the nature of collaborative socially engaged arts. Organised in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University and delivered in part with the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme (CAPP) – a Creative Europe funded programme.
