This one-day practical writing workshop takes as its inspiration Jackson Pollock’s vibrant paintings. Poet Tamar Yoseloff, who has written a sequence based on Pollock and who also works in collaboration with contemporary artists, will lead the session. We will begin with a group discussion of poems informed by Pollock’s vision, by writers such as Frank O’Hara (who, as a curator at MoMA in New York, also wrote the first monograph on the artist), Mark Doty and John Yau. We will then move into the gallery to view Tate Liverpool’s current exhibition Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots as a source for our own poems. There will be an opportunity in the afternoon to share drafts of new work and ideas. This course is open to writers of all levels with an interest in working with art as a stimulus to their practice.
